Makahu Forest

Makahu Forest is a premier first-rotation forestry asset strategically located near Douglas in the Taranaki region. Positioned in a highly regarded forestry district, the property offers scale, quality establishment, and excellent access to processing and export infrastructure.

Makahu comprises a total title area of just over 320 hectares. The forest was professionally established in 2024, with 271 hectares planted in Pinus radiata. A further 22.6 hectares of indigenous species were planted in 2025, enhancing environmental values and long-term sustainability. There is 229.7 hectares of Pinus radiata registered in the ETS under averaging, along with an additional 16.2 hectares of indigenous plantings — strengthening both the carbon profile and environmental profile.

Managed to the highest industry standards, the forest is already demonstrating exceptional early growth, supported by superior establishment practices and outstanding site conditions. The property features predominantly medium contour terrain, providing operational efficiencies, and benefits from direct road access.

Strategically positioned just 83 kilometres from Port Taranaki, Makahu offers access to well-established export markets. It is also located only 76 kilometres from the Taranaki Pine Sawmill, ensuring economical cartage distances and supporting strong investment fundamentals.

Makahu Forest is being marketed in conjunction with two other forests being Kiri Forest and Turakina Forest, both young and ETS registered and together with Makahu give a total combined productive area of approximately 715 ha.

Makahu forest is For Sale by way of Two Stage tender, with first EOI stage closing on the 12th of March 2026. The second and final tender stage closes on the 9 of April 2026 at 2 pm.
