Moalands Forest, Masterton

Located just north of Masterton, Moalands Forest represents an example of the quality establishment of exotics in New Zealand.

The forest was established in 2023 having a net stocked area of 379 hectares which is comprised of 282 hectares of Pinus Radiata and 97 hectares of Coast Redwood and has achieved the targeted 1000 stems per hectare for the Pinus Radiata and 600 stems per hectare for the Redwood.

The land classes, being a majority of class 6 land, with a very small area of class 3 are ideal for forestry establishment.

The forest is currently being registered in the ETS with the application being for a total carbon accounting area of 381.3 hectares.

The high sunshine hours combined with a rainfall averaging 1153mm per annum is ideal for high recoverable timber volumes and subsequent revenues come harvest.

Access to export markets is via an economical cart to Center Port in Wellington, while Kiwi Lumber Masterton and Dannevirke being 49 and 88 kms respectively, provide sound domestic options.
